NAYANA Kpop Cafe (AMK)

Our Review On NAYANA Kpop Cafe (AMK Branch)

NAYANA Kpop Cafe & Restaurant (Ang Mo Kio Branch)

Our craving for light Korean food on a Sunday afternoon brought us to search on Google and we found this NAYANA Kpop Cafe located at the Ang Mo Kio area. We decided to give it a try.

We were there around 12.40pm but there was no crowd (only us) and the guys inside seemed to be just opening up for business (though the opening hour was at 11am).

The place was rather small but the long mirrors at the side wall gave the impression that the place was very long. The decoration of the place was in Kpop theme so you can see many of the girl and boybands on the wall and table top.

We chose a table in the middle and we were then told to scan the QR Code on the table to look at the menu, order and make payment. There was no air-con and it was only switched on after another couple came in later. We sat below the air-con vent and it got cold quite fast when the strong gust of wind blew down (unluckily we were already finishing our meat soon at that time). We also could not find any serviettes on the table but luckily we had our own tissues. The bosses came in later after the couple and they greeted us with goodbyes when we left the place.

When we tried to look at the menu, possibly due to some network (poor connection) issue, we found it hard to navigate around and initial scanning of the QR Code did not bring up anything on the phone.

Note: If you are visiting NAYANA Kpop Cafe soon, you may want to access this link first and sign up for an account with your mobile number – https://www.nayanaonline.shop/. You will need to know your Table Number to proceed with the dine-in ordering. You can also use the same link for Delivery, Takeaway or to reserve a Table.

What We Ordered?

Once we got into the site, there were many items on the menu – Meat, Soup / Stew, Rice, Noodle, Fried Chicken, Sides / Add-ons, Fusion, Beverages, Desserts, Ice Cream Bingsu, Alcohol, Ice Blended, Floats, Korean Boba Tea. They have other menu items like Special, Set Lunch and for Vegetarian / Vegan.

We went with their Jjajangmyeon ($15.90), Japchae ($16.90), Nokcha ($6.50), Coffee Float ($6.50) and paid online. A copy of the order was also sent to our email.

The Taste

— Banchan

Banchan- Kimchi, Black Bean and Potato

Before our main dishes, we were served some sides (banchan) which consisted of Black Bean, Potato and Kimchi. Kimchi and Potato tasted normal but we liked the Black Beans which had a little sweetness and texture to it.

— Jjajeonmyeong

Our Jjajeonmyeong was served next and fast. It was a rather big serving with some thick sauce and a handful of sliced cucumber on top.

After a good mix, we took a first bite. It tasted authentic like those in South Korea and we even tried doing a loud slurp with the sauce (like those eating scenes in Korean Dramas) and we could do it!

Only issue we had was that the sauce had a mix of other ingredients like onions so we often mistook them for the diced pork. The sauce was not that salty but we did feel a bit thirsty after everything.

— Japchae

Japchae

Our Japchae was served shortly after the Jjajamyeong. This was another big serving which consisted of a mixture of Glass Noodles, Red Pepper, Mushrooms, Carrots and some Sesame seeds on top.

Taste was rather sweet from the slightly starchy sauce, chewy from the springy glass noodles and mushrooms and crunchiness from the carrots and red pepper.

Coffee Float

The Iced Coffee Float came next in a heavy Beer Cup. There was no straw and just a spoon. The coffee taste was not strong, strong milky taste because of the Vanilla Ice Cream. The Ice Cubes were also very small and we would get some of the ice cubes into our mouth with each sip.

The Nokcha also came together with the Iced Coffee Float. Likewise, it came with no straw but just a spoon. This drink had a strong milk taste as compared to a Green Tea taste.

  1. I ordered potato rosti with beef for take-away and I realized when I got home that there was very little beef and only one teaspoon of sour cream. In the menu, the dish is described as coming with sour cream, and one would expect more than a tiny mouthful, but it was so cheap of the restaurant to offer just a drop of it. The tiny plastic container for the sour cream was not even one-third filled. One TEAspoon of sour cream for my order – not even a TABLEspoon! With the tax, the tiny portion of hash brown potatoes, a couple of spoonfuls of beef sprinkled on top and a tiny drop of sour cream came to almost $20. This was a very expensive dish and completely NOT worth it for the portion I received.

    1. Hi MLR, thanks for sharing your food experience with NAYANA Kpop Cafe. Do hope they will improve and provide an even better experience than this.
