Our Review On SOI 47 THAI FOOD (Clark Quay Central Outlet)

SOI 47 THAI FOOD (Clark Quay Central)

We were at the Clark Quay Central area for our Yoga Lesson on a Sunday Afternoon and we decided to try out the Thai Menu over at SOI 47 THAI FOOD after seeing the large eating crowd inside. We first visited them on April 2 and we visited them again on November 26 (for the same reason) thus this post has been updated with some new details.

The place had this minimalist feel with little renovations done except for the many green plants that were on the wall and hanging above the tables. They also had a small garden of potted plants outside and they were for sale.

The setup was also very simplistic – tables and metal chairs. But not sure if the choice of the metal chairs was good as there was always this dragging noise whenever the staffs cleaned up the table for the next customers.

The place was also very crowded with small crowds of customers that kept coming in.

The Second Visit (November 2023)

On our second visit, the plants were all gone and there was no more garden outside. The setup was still the same – minimalist with not much renovation. The metal chairs were still there and the dragging noise somehow became louder when they were just clearing one table around us.

Regular small crowds were still coming in when we were there so this place was still popular as ever.

Hygiene seemed to be a bit lax as we saw one baby cockroach crawling along the side and luckily we were done with our food.

The Menu And What We Ordered

SOI 47 THAI FOOD uses physical menu and there’s no QR Menu Code to scan or to order from. And there are many items to choose from. You can check out their menu online and click on the one applicable to Clark Quay Central Outlet.

They have many Main Categories like Finger Food, Salad, Soup, Vegetables, Omelette, Curry, Hot Plate, Clay Pot, Rice, Noodles, Seafood, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Dessert and Drinks.

What We Ordered (April 2023)

After flipping through multiple times, we decided to go for their Phad Ki Mao Mama with Seafood ($6), Claypot Tom Yam Mama with Prawns and Meatballs ($11.80), Steamed Seabass with Thai Lime Sauce ($19.80), Ice Roselle ($2.50) and Plum Soda ($3. 50).

What We Ordered (November 2023)

On our second visit to SOI 47 THAI FOOD, we decided to eat a bit lighter and we just went for their Tom Yam Soup Cream Style (Chicken, $6.80), Tom Saap (Pork, $7.00), Pineapple Fried Rice ($6.50), Lime Soda ($4.00), Iced Thai Milk Tea ($3.50). And we had also noticed that most of their Menu Items had increased prices by around $0.50 to $1.00. Why?!

The Taste (April 2023)

— Iced Roselle & Plum Soda

Drinks came first. For the Iced Roselle, it tasted a lot like Ribena and luckily it’s those thick concentrated and not diluted kind of taste. For the Plum Soda, the sourness was powerful.

— Claypot Tom Yam Mama with Prawns and Meatballs

The Claypot Tom Yam Mama with Prawns and Meatballs was served next and the presentation was really nice with the main ingredients very visible.

This dish came with two handmade meatballs which had a chunky minced meat taste (be careful of hidden greens!), a runny soft-boiled egg which was good on its own or mixed with the soup, around 4 unpeeled and slightly big prawns, two lime slices which remained untouched, QQ mama noodles and a very tasty-satisfying-soury tom yum soup.

Phad Ki Mao Mama with Seafood

The Phad Ki Mao Mama with Seafood was served next. This was a mix of QQ Mama Noodles with some spicy sauce, long beans which tasted a bit raw, thin slices of carrot which absorbed quite a bit of the sauce, onion slices which were cooked well and soft, prawns and sotong which were a bit disappointing in taste. This dish was also meant to be well mixed as it was quite salty on the first taste and only tasted better after mixing everything well.

Steamed Seabass with Thai Lime Sauce

The Steamed Seabass with Thai Lime Sauce was the last to be served and the waiting time was like 20 to 30 mins. It was initially served with just the fish in the tray and one staff would pour the hot Thai Lime Sauce over it.

This dish was the next well-enjoyed item after the Claypot Tom Yam Mama with Prawns and Meatballs and worth the wait. We would also recommend this dish if you intend to eat at SOI 47 THAI FOOD.

The seabass slices were very fresh though a bit hard to scrape the meat out. There was also a lot of hidden meat in between the bones so it would be good to spend some time with the fish. The Thai Lime Sauce was also good in taste with a rich sour taste.

The Taste (November 2023)

Lime Soda And Iced Thai Milk Tea

The Lime Soda And Iced Thai Milk Tea were served first. Lime Soda was sour and gassy and Thai Milk Tea taste was quite authentic and similar to the thick milky taste from Bangkok and it was also not very sweet.

Tom Yam Soup Cream Style (Chicken)

The Tom Yam Soup Clear Style (Chicken) was served pretty fast after we ordered and initially we thought that serving size was rather big for one person.

Like our previous visit to SOI 47 THAI FOOD, the Tom Yam Soup never disappointed us, only that the soup was not as creamy as the photo in the Menu. Luckily the soup taste was still sour and spicy at a certain level. The other thing was that there was really a lot of those lemon grass and other fillings that we had to take out and they took up quite a volume so ended up the portion was just good for one person.

There was also a generous serving of fresh and chunky chicken bits with some pieces having that very thin layer of skin.

Tom Saap (Pork)

Tom Saap (Pork)

We wanted to try something different and so we googled what was Tom Saap all about. It was like Tom Yam but less sour and more hot and so we tried.

This Tom Saap (Pork) came with a lot of well-cooked onions, mushrooms, and pork slices that tasted like shabu shabu. In terms of soup taste, it was quite hot that we had a bit of non-stop runny nose incident and not that sour as compared to Tom Yam and with a bit of pork-mixed taste. We also had the same issue of picking out the other garnishes which made up quite a volume of the soup and so the size was enough for one.

Pineapple Fried Rice

Pineapple Fried Rice

The Pineapple Fried Rice was the last to be served but the wait was not very long. This dish was a mix of fluffy pork floss, fragrant but not crunchy cashew nuts, small prawns, a-bit-dry pineapple bits and the yellowish fried rice.

The rice was quite nice on its own and eating with a bit of the floss and pineapple bits had a bit of crunchy and chewy taste. And the taste of this dish was somehow better as well after drinking bit of the Tom Yam / Tom Saap Soup.

Payment

Both payments were done at the cashier counter and the prices quoted above were before the additional Service Charge of 10% and GST of 8%. SOI 47 THAI FOOD also has this option to pay by FavePay on top of the usual Credit Card and Cash options.
