Our Review On NBCB (Nothing But Cheese Burger) i12 Katong Outlet
After going past this NBCB Outlet, located at one end of Level 1 of i12 Katong Mall, and saying out the vulgar side of the store name (original name is Nothing But Cheese Burger) to each other each time we walked past, we finally decided to try out the food here. It was a hot Sunday afternoon and we had just done our Spin Cycle over at CRNK.
The self-ordering kiosk was not working and there was only one customer queuing in front of the counter. One lady was attending to them while 3 guys were busy cooking in the kitchen.
The eating area was just outside of the outlet and could sit quite a number. There were also many yellow signs written in Singlish to remind everyone to return the trays and no outside food. The Order Number Box is located right above the Tray Return Area.
The Menu And What We Ordered
We did not manage to take a photo of the Menu. NBCB does have a Menu Online but turns out that it’s not the latest. The differences were that they had Rice Options – Beef ($11.90), Pork ($10.90), Chicken ($9.90) and Fish ($9.90) and a Set Meal for 2 Burgers at $30+.
There was also a slight variation in the Make It A Meal Section and somehow it caused a little unhappiness.
Other than that, their food options include 8 different kinds of Burgers (NBCB, GCB, PCB, CCB, HAHA, WTF, OTAK, GOOD MORNING), additional option to add ingredients to the Burgers, Mouth Itchy (their Side Dishes), Kombucha, Beers and Milkshakes.
We decided to try their:
- Pork Rice with a set of 1 Milo & Cookies ($10.90 + $4)
- CCB with Teriyaki Sauce (other option is Mayo) ($9.90)
- Matcha Milkshake ($6.00)
So, the little unhappiness that we had was that the Matcha Milkshake was added as an Ala Carte order just because one of us had missed out on the Make It A Meal option when we ordered our items separately. The lady cashier also did not ask if we wanted to add it as part of the meal. We only noticed this after we had paid and back to our table. Anyway…
There were two promotions at that time:
- All Set Meals 15% Off for Civil Servant, NSF & Student
- Buy a $20 Voucher for $17 and 1% Cashback from Shopback – we went with this and redeeming just need their 4-Digit Pin. The rest was paid with a credit card. The above price was before the 9% GST (another $2.77).
The Taste
Waiting time was less than 10 minutes and we collected all the items from the Collection Point located beside the Cashier. Utensils, Straws and Sauces were also located at that area.
— Milo & Cookies and Matcha Milkshakes
Looking through the online menu and comparing with the menus taken by some other food reviewers, it seemed like the Matcha Milkshake has been on the menu for a long while the Milo & Cookies Milkshake seems to be a new item.
Taste wise. We quite liked that both milkshakes were not-too-overly-thick, smoothness, not too sweet and had more distinct taste of Matcha and Milo than milk.
— Pork Rice
For the Pork Rice under their Jiak Png Series, the menu listed the following ingredients of Grilled Pork, Short Grain Rice, Fried Egg and Black Pepper Sauce. Other not-listed ingredients included Baby Tomatoes, Corns, Cucumbers. For $10.90, we felt that the serving size was quite small.
Taste wise. The Black Pepper Sauce was a bit too overwhelming and thick. Every few other mouths, we could feel that peppery sensation. Baby Tomatoes and Cucumbers were fresh and crunchy. Fried Egg was a bit runny. Eating the corns together with the short grain rice was quite enjoyable.
We quite liked the Pork Slices which had that little bounce in texture when we chew on it. To justify the price, we both felt that they had use good quality pork.
— CCB
According to their menu, this CCB is made up of Fried Boneless Chicken Leg, Natural Cheddar Cheese, Brioche Bun, Lettuce and their Secret Sauce. During the order, we were asked if we wanted Mayo or Teriyaki Sauce and we opted for the latter – so not too sure if this option had replaced their Secret Sauce.
The serving size was quite okay. Presentation wise was definitely better than McDonald’s McChicken. Cheddar Cheese tasted authentic and there was plenty of lettuce which was well nested at the bottom of the bun and very little spilled out. The buns were fluffy, tasted slightly toasted and soaked with the Teriyaki Sauce which was a tinge sweet and flavorful.
The Fried Chicken Leg Meat was nice. The chicken skin was nicely fried and not too oily. Chicken meat was tender and fresh to taste. The serving size of the chicken meat was also quite acceptable. We felt this was a good reason to justify the $9.90 for this CCB.
