Our Review On Rumah Makan Minang (Our Tampines Hub)

Rumah Makan Minang (Our Tampines Hub)

We chanced upon this Rumah Makan Minang (Halal Indonesian Cuisine) when we were exploring the insides of Our Tampines Hub on a late Sunday morning. The place was pretty crowded and we stood around for a while before managing to get a Table for 2.

Ordering style was self-service so one of us went ahead to join the queue.

Menu

12 Set Meals to choose from Rumah Makan Minang

For their Menu, they have like 12 Set Meals or a wide range of dish items to choose from. Set Meals included Mee Rebus, Mee Soto, Lontong Lodeh, Gado Gado, Tahu Goreng, Soto Ayam at $5 each. Paru Belado Set, Ayam Goreng Set at $7.50 each, Indo Mie Beef Rendang. Ayam Belado Merah Set, Ayam Belado Hijau Set at $8 each and Beef Rendang Set, Ayam Gulai Set at $8.50 each.

Many Dishes

They also have a wide range of Ala-Carte dishes to choose from. Details on the dishes can be found on their Online Menu.

What We Ordered

Choosing the Ala-Carte dishes seemed to be a popular choice among the diners there. Instead, we went with the Set Meal. We went with their Lontong Sayur Lodeh ($5), Indo Mie Beef Rendang ($8) and 2 Bagedils ($1.50 each).

Payment (and a bit of Negative Experience)

Payment was made at the cashier counter which was at the end of the queue. One thing which we did not like was the payment process. We had a few customers who ordered both the ala-carte as well as set meals and both took different times to complete and some of the customer groups were close to each other at the cashier counter… So, the lady boss at the counter often had to ask the groups if they were together or separate. On top of that, ordering ala-carte dishes could take longer than the set meals and vice versa… and both types of order needed to be completed and paid for and this waiting created a bit of jam and waiting.

We made payment via PayNow. No credit card payments available. There were no additional charges like GST or Service Charge.

The Taste

— Lontong Sayur Lodeh

Lontong Sayur Lodeh

For $5, the serving size was enough for one person. It came with rice cakes, cabbages, carrots, long beans and tahu goreng.

The rice cakes were starchy, soft and nice with the thick and creamy coconut milk-based soup. The Tahu Goreng had a thin fried skin and thick bean curd taste.

Most of the long beans in the lontong dishes out there usually tasted raw but luckily not the case for the Lontong Sayur Lodeh here which was cooked and soft. Cabbage and carrot were thick and crunchy and went well with the creamy soup as well. We definitely enjoyed this Lontong Sayur Lodeh.

— Indo Mie Beef Rendang

Indo Mie Beef Rendang

This Indo Mie Beef Rendang came with a packet of tapoica chips, sunny side up, indo mee, cucumbers and a small serving of beef rendang. For $8, the serving size was for one person.

Indo Mee

For the Indo Mee, we liked the texture of it – very bouncy texture. We felt a bit disappointed with the noodles that were ‘not freshly’ cooked. We saw one of the staff took out a box from a shelf and in it was the noodle. From there, they simply added the rest of the ingredients. Egg Yolk was a bit soft and luckily not too oily or burned.

Beef Rendang

The Beef Rendang was rather salty, spicy and flavourful. Meat texture was well cooked and we could easily tore the meat apart. The meat was best eaten with the noodle else the saltiness could be a little overwhelming.

Tapoica Chips

The tapoica chips came sealed in a plastic bag and we quite liked the natural and crunchy taste of it.

Bagedils

Bagedils

The Bagedils were part of the ala carte dishes and we ordered two. They gave us a bit of crispy egg crumbs as well. Their Bagedils had a well-mixed internal texture of soft potatoes. It had an authentic taste and not too oily as well.
