Our Review On TOTOFISH 多多魚 (Hougang Ave 1 Outlet)

We were around Hougang Ave 1 area for our fitness class and we chanced upon this TOTOFISH Outlet at one of the coffeeshops. Price was extremely affordable and serving size was easily manageable as compared to those outlets serving one whole Steamed Fish which may took some time to finish everything.
We managed to get a table at one of the corners and we joined in the queue to try out this steamed fish.

The Taste
— Steamed Seabass with Chopped Chilli Set Meal with Lala and Sea Prawn

The waiting time was around 18 minutes and we went over to the counter to collect our order. It came with half of a Fish Head, Chopped Chilli, lots of Coriander Greens, two Sea Prawns, handful of Lalas, a Steamed Egg and White Rice.

The fish broth had a good salty taste to it and there were black beans so this fish could have been prepared in those Teochew style.

There were also cabbages at the bottom of the fish so this meal was rather well-balanced in diet.

The steamed egg came as part of the Set Meal and the top layer was actually soy sauce. We were initially worried that it might be too salty but it was actually mild and we quite liked the taste of it.

Lala was fresh and no sand! The chopped chili went well with the lala as well as with a spoonful of rice and fish broth.

We also liked the Prawns and the meat was really chunky. They were fresh and cooked well.

We also liked the Fish Sauce which was salty and eating together with the fish, gave it an extra salty taste. The fish sauce also went well with the Lalas and the white rice.

The highlight of this meal has to be the Fish Head. For a price of $7.50, we expected that it would be more bones than meat but surprisingly, we were wrong. The fish head was around 1.5 times of a male palm and there were lots of fish meat. Fish meat was smooth and slightly chunky. Fish skin was also slightly chewy. There were no scales and bones were found only towards the frontal area. Eating this fish head was definitely enjoyable.
