We Stumbled Upon C&C Breakfast Okinawa
C&C Breakfast Okinawa was a eating place that we stumbled upon in our Okinawa Trip after we had our seafood breakfast at the Makishi Public Market when we suddenly saw a long queue from afar. The photos of their colorful souffle pancakes also caught our attention!
We managed to get a glimpse of the sign, googled about it and realized that this place was actually quite popular with 4-Star Reviews and around 400-plus reviews. They are serving Hawaiian Breakfasts, are Vegetarian Friendly and offers Vegan Options.
We decided to try our luck the next day and see if we could get a place. We also found another Pork Tamago Onigiri Honten right opposite this place which was still closed in the early morning.
Eating At C&C Breakfast Okinawa
The next day was a rainy day (it rained the whole day and rainy days in Okinawa can be quite scary especially with the big waves) so we were lucky to find the queue outside rather short. After a short wait along the corridor (we were slowly getting drenched as it was hard to hold the umbrella opened in the queue), the door opened and a small group of us were directed to our seats. This place was just opened less than 15 minutes and was already more than 50% occupied.
Ambiance
The place was small, simple decorations with few photo frames of their food, Hawaiian music playing in the background and with limited seats (probably around 24 seats) as well as a small kitchen occupied by 4 ladies (1 at the Cashier and 3 preparing the orders). We sat 1 table away from the kitchen and we could not hear any noise from inside – amazing!
Menu
If you are a person who is easily overwhelmed with many options, you will feel it when you go through their menu. They had many items to choose from:
- Drinks like Coffee, Earl Grey Tea, Honey Bush Herb Tea, Acai Green Smoothie, Banana Milk, Ginger & Basil Lemonade
- Souffle Pancakes – Lilikoi Sauce, Strawberry Sauce or Fruit Special (Strawberry, Blueberry, Banana, Apple, Orange)
- Pancakes – Blueberry / Banana or Fruit Special
- Acai or Guava Bowl
- French Toast – Original or Fruit Special
- Sandwiches – Beef, Reuben or Shima-Tofu & Avocado
- Eggs Benedict – Smoked Bacon or Smoked Salmon
- Omelettes – Ratatouille or Porchino & Cheese
- Salad – C&C & Farmer’s
- Soup (Lens Culinaris, Brown Rice and more)
Our Orders & Reviews
The list was long and we looked around for inspiration and we finally decided to try the:
— Lilikoi Sauce Souffle Pancake (800 Yen + Tax)
Review:
This came with Original Cream, Lilikoi Butter and Passion Fruits Sauce. The pancakes tasted soft, were very fluffy and came a bit on the damp side. We were served with two big fluffy pancakes stuck together. We were hoping to see them jiggly but were disappointed. The Original Cream was not very sweet, the Lilikoi Butter had that vibrant yellow glow and was quite solid when served but melted very quickly and did not have that significant taste like what we usually got from Butter (milk). The Passion Fruit Sauce tasted a bit sour and there were a few seeds which were not to our liking.
Overall the serving was quite big and as there were no significant taste from the Lilikoi Butter and Original Cream, we found it hard and bland to finish the whole plate. Luckily the bacon from our Egg Benedict helped us. The Fruit Special Option would have been better (one of us did not like berries so we did not choose it) and more colorful as photos.
A little knowledge that we picked up online:
Lilikoi is commonly known as Passion Fruit in Hawaii and Lilikoi Butter is made from a mixture of Passion Fruit, Butter, Sugar and Eggs. It can easily be made and go well with toast, pancakes, tarts and cheesecake.
— Smoked Bacon Eggs Benedict (1000 Yen + Tax)
Review:
This came with Home Fries, Potato, Salad, Onion, Hollandaise Sauce and two Poached Eggs on French Toast.
Egg white was soft and not too runny. We sliced through the egg in half and were hoping to see dripping egg yolk but was disappointed to see it staying there, looking hard and soft at the same time. The yellowish-white thick layer over the eggs was the Hollandaise Sauce and it added a tinge of sour-sour taste (possibly due to the lemon juice used while making the Sauce). We eventually found the one onion ring that was hidden underneath the bacon. Bacon tasted chunky, a little bit salty with a good layer of melting fats when chewed and we really liked that taste. Potato was oven toasted, had a thin crispy roasted skin and taste was okay though we would have preferred it to be a little crunchy. We wished the salad had more variety as well. For the Home Fries, they tasted normal but they looked quite different.
Similarly the serving was quite big as well but the bacon taste was really good and it boosted our appetite and helped us to finish this and the souffle pancake. Definitely a must-try item. Go for the smoked salmon which seemed to be another popular item.
Our Overall Impression On C&C Breakfast Okinawa
Food:
A good variety of menu options to choose from. We feel that their preparation and cooking style tend to be on the healthy side so that’s why what we have tasted were not too sweet, too salty or too oily. Food taste can still be enhanced if we go with the add-ons like fruits or the maple syrup provided. What we liked was that they had put in a lot of effort has been to make their food presentation colorful.
Price / Value:
We felt that the price was like what those other similar cafes are offering. The value we got was that each serving portion was big for just one person to finish. IT was a good way to share or really fill up our stomachs. We also got to try new ingredients like the Lilikoi sauce and Home Fries that looked different.
Service:
We did not have a lot of interactions with them, except during the time we were directed to our seats, taking our orders and receiving our payments. Overall it was positive. Another plus point was that despite the place being small and yet when the place can be crowded, they do not have a noisy kitchen. We also took one of their free postcard at the cashier’s counter when we were making our payment (cash only).
Ambiance / Decor:
Simple decorations with music playing in the background. We felt that the place was small and the space between each table was rather close especially those at the long couch area. The waiting corridor outside was also quite narrow and did not really shelter us from the rain. Luckily the queue and waiting time was short on that day.
