Visiting This The New Coffeeshop Managed By Yaowarat
We visited this coffeeshop located along Kovan Road on a Sunday afternoon which had gone through a new management (previously known as Jin Hock Food Place and later Yong May Food and Beverage) and now known as The Coffeeshop By Yaowarat (and the Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap Food Outlet is just two doors away…).
This coffeeshop is the place where you could always see long queues along the pavement for its Char Kway Teow and Fried Oysters in the weekends.
We Tried The Chicken Cutlet Ban Mian And Braised Pork Rice
Most stalls were not opened except for the Ban Mee Stall which was enjoying order after order and this Pig Trotter Rice Stall which looked like they were ready to open for business.
We tried the Chicken Cutlet Ban Mian (Dry) from the Ng Kuan Pan Mee stall. They have other options like Fried Pork (Dry) and Fish Cutlet (Dry) as well as Signature Ban Mian (Dry), Spinach Soup (Soup), Mee Hoon Kueh (Soup) and You Mian (Soup).
How Was It?
For $6.80, we found the serving size a bit too small to feel full. It came with a small bowl of soup which had a mild taste and a plate of sliced chicken cutlets.
The Ban Mian came along with Fried Bite-sizd Garlic, Runny Egg, Crispy Ikan Bilis (Anchovies) and a spoonful of chilli paste. Noodle must be well-mixed else it could be quite tasteless on its own. Note that the spiciness could be a little overwhelming for some so you may want to mix the rest first, have a taste on the chilli paste before deciding the amount to mix.
The chicken cutlet was pretty normal in taste but good thing that the skin was crunchy.
We also tried the Braised Pork Rice from Shen Ye Pig Trotter Rice. They were just getting ready to open for business so there were not really much choices that we could order.
How Was It?
Serving was pretty small but looked very well presented. The meat looked like they came with many bones but surprisingly they were soft bone and chewable. The meat also came with thin layer of soft fats which we liked. The salted vegetables were not salty enough but it was still good enough. Rice was covered with a thin layer of sauce and not too salty as well. Rice was well cooked and didn’t clump together. Nothing impressive about the egg. It came with a few slices of raw garlic but they were not something we would usually eat.
The Other Stalls
There were other stalls like the Famous Char Kway Teow which shared the space with the Shen Ye Pig Trotter Rice and a Western Food Stall but they were not open.
