Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee (Bugis)

Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee (Bugis)

We visited this Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee Stall over at this QS 269 Food House (located between Bugis+ and the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple) on a Sunday Afternoon, not knowing beforehand that this was the second stall of the popular Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee Stall located at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre.

One of us joined the long queue and the other one went to look for an empty table and it was a challenge to get an empty one. We were lucky that one couple decided to vacate a table after sitting down briefly with their food.

It took us around 15 minutes to join the queue before we could order and pay for our food.

The Menu & What We Ordered

For Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee, their menu is very simple – just Curry Chicken Noodle at $6, $7 and $8 with the choice of noodles like Yellow Noodle, Thick Bee Hoon and Bee Hoon.

We ordered the $6 and $8 portion with Yellow Noodles, paid cash on the spot and self-served back to our table.

Ah Heng Curry Chicken Noodle - $6 Portion
Curry Chicken Noodle – $6
Ah Heng Curry Chicken Noodle - $8 Portion
Curry Chicken Noodle – $8

What are the Differences between the $6 and $8 portion?

Bowl of the $8 was bigger so more Curry, more Tau Poks, Chicken came with the Wing Section, more Fish Cakes. Noodles, Bean Sprouts and Potatoes were more less the same amount.

The Taste

— Curry

The Curry

The Curry was thick, could be a little too oily but still very nice. We did feel a bit bloated after drinking too much of the curry.

— Chicken

The next tasty part, after the curry, was the Chicken Meat. The meat was steamed, fresh and we could feel the moisture and tinge of coldness oozing out from the breast meat when chewed. The wing part was where we could taste the skin – smooth but not deboned.

Note: we did take chilli and that was supposedly to go with the chicken. In the end, we did not take any of it.

— Tau Poks and Fish Cakes

Tau Pok and Fish Cake

The third part that we liked was the Tau Poks and Fish Cakes. Most other stalls would serve the Tau Pok in its triangular from, but for Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee, they were served in long strips and well-soaked with the curry. We could eat it whole or in parts and each bite would ooze out the curry – nice and warm in the mouth.

The fish cakes were generally thicker than those from other stalls and a nice chew to them.

— Noodles, Bean Sprouts & Potatoes

We found nothing extraordinary about the Potatoes, Yellow Noodles and Bean Sprouts other than they were quite presentable like the shape of potatoes was quite the same for both portions and bean sprouts did not have any of those black outer casings.

Conclusion

We would say that we enjoyed our Curry Chicken Noodles from Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee. If you intend to try them out and intend to eat just one item, do go for the $8 portion as you get to enjoy bit more of everything that came with the $6 or $7 portion.

The coffee house itself could get crowded especially on the weekends so do go with friends or family members so that one of you can queue while the others can ‘chope’ a table while waiting.
