Our Hua Shan Roasted Delights & SK Kway Chap Review
Not all good food outlets are located at well known locations and some of them do not have multiple outlets (or franchises) as well.
Good examples are these two hawker stalls – Hua Shan Roasted Delights and SK Kway Chap which have been operating for more than 20 years at Yi Huat Eating House (681 Hougang Ave 8). The food is tasty and affordable but they can only be found at this location. If you want to eat there, you can expect a long queue as well.
— Hua Shan Roasted Delights

Note: Hua Shan Roasted Delights had stopped operating at 681 Hougang Ave 8 and moved to 122 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. You can read our review here.
Hua Shan Roasted Delights has operated for more than 20 years by a group of good ‘brothers’ (not blood-related but more like a Master & Disciple kind of relationship) with the Boss’ wife joining the group in the recent years. The Boss has that always-stern look but he still smile every now and then (so see if you are the lucky one that day) and the wife is always the friendly one. Both take orders. There’s also the main ‘chopper’ and one who scoops rice, put all the chopped meat, oil and sauces and wrapped it up. Most of the orders are self-served unless you ordered family portion or if the Lady-Boss is in a very-happy mood.
Hua Shan Roasted Delights sells:
- Roasted and White Chicken
- Roasted and Braised Duck
- Char Siew and Roasted Pork
- Daily Selection of Traditional Soups
Queue was always long and when we were there, we had to queue around 15 minutes to order and had to stand around for self-service.
We ordered their Roasted Chicken Drumstick, Roasted Duck, Char Siew, Roasted Pork and a bowl of Sichuan Vegetables Soup as well as two plates of rice. Total cost was under $20.
The fats on the roasted chicken meat were nice and tasty though the roasted duck meat was a tad oilier. Both meat could be easily pulled off from the bones and the skin. The roasted pork skin was also crunchy. The sauce on the rice was delicious as well. The chili was really spicy and went well when we poured over with rice or ate together with the meats.
— SK Kway Chap

SK Kway Chap is operated by a Husband-Wife Team in half a stall and has been there for more than 10 years.
We had a fun time seeing the always-friendly-looking boss scooping up the ingredients and slicing them up in a rhythm. The lady (aka the wife) preparing the food outside the stall may look fierce at times. If you frequent the stall enough, the uncle may even remember your order.
SK Kway Chap sells:
- Teochew-Style Kway Chap & Rice
- Along with its Pig Intestines, Pork Belly and Pig Skin, Fish Cake, Tau Pok & Eggs
We orded a bowl of Kway Chap and Rice along with the Pig Intestines, Pork Belly and Pig Skin, Fish Cake, Tau Pok (Braised Beancurd) & Eggs. Just $6.
The Pig Intestines did not have any smelly taste and had a chewy taste. The Pork Belly almost melted in our mouth as well. Pork skin (full of collagen!!!) was quite firm and hair was removed from them quite thoroughly. At one glance, one scoop of the gravy into the Kway Chap, we thought the soup would be bland but to our surprise, it was just nice, not too salty nor bland. The Chili Sauce was also nice!
