Milkfish Singapore

Our Review On Milkfish Singapore (Raffles City Outlet)

Milkfish Singapore (Raffles City)

We tried out this Milkfish Singapore on a late Sunday Afternoon after considering the many foods outlets in the basement level of Raffles City Shopping Centre. This also seemed to be the only outlet left after those in Millenia Walk and Kent Ridge had closed down.

The place was fairly crowded even at around 2pm and we were given a Table of 2. We were given a physical menu as well as a QR Code. We were told to scan and submit our orders online.

The Taste

— Grouper Fish Signature Seafood in Milkfish Broth Set with Crispy Rice Sprinkles

Grouper Fish Signature Seafood in Milkfish Broth Set with Crispy Rice Sprinkles

The Grouper Fish Signature Seafood in Milkfish Broth Set with Crispy Rice Sprinkles came first after around 10 minutes of submitting our orders via their QR Menu. This order included a bowl of Grouper Fish Signature Seafood in Milkfish Broth, Marinated Cherry Tomatoes, Homemade Oriental Salad, a plate of Cripsy Rice Sprinkles and a small saucer of Nyonya Sauce (chili paste).

The serving size looked small for the $27.90 price tag but was still satisfingly enough to fill one of our tummies. The broth smell was surprisingly good.

Marinated Cherry Tomatoes

We tried off the side dishes first and we went with the Cherry Tomatoes. At first glance, they looked pretty normal, just without the outer skin. We did not know it was marinated and was expecting a normal tomato taste. But interestingly, the taste was really good like a mix of honey, vinegar with the fresh juiciness of a tomato. A must-try!

Oriental Salad

This Homemade Oriental Salad is a mixture of Bamboo Shoots, Black Fungus, Bean Sprouts, Noodles and Sliced Red Chilli. We find the taste just so-so.

Chilli Paste

This chili paste should be their Nyonya Sauce which is a mixture of Garlic, Vinegar and Chili. It had quite a numbing hot taste and went well with most items. The amount was quite little.

Milkfish Broth

The milkfish broth was really good and it was supposed to be free of added MSG, Preservatives and Milk. That milky texture is apparently due to their choice of using milkfish. You can click on this link to read about the story behind their broth and you can also buy the broth via this link.

Clams and Meat Patty

This dish came with some seafood items like baby clams and prawn. Another interesting item was this piece of patty which we initially thought was yam (may not be acceptable to a few) but it was actually minced meat. The meat patty was salty and fragrant.

Cripsy Rice Sprinkles

The Crispy Rice Sprinkles was really crunchy and went well with both types of soup. Pao-Fan lovers would definitely like this item.

This dish also came with a big serving of greens and tofu which were soft to taste.

Grouper Fish & Meat Patty in Kimchi Broth with Thick Bee Hoon

Grouper Fish & Meat Patty in Kimchi Broth with Thick Bee Hoon

This Grouper Fish & Meat Patty in Kimchi Broth with Thick Bee Hoon was served shortly and it was served in two portions – a bowl of soup with ingredients and a bowl of soup with the Thick Bee Hoon.

Thick Bee Hoon

Thick Bee Hoon was pretty normal. Soup tasted a lot like Tomato Soup and we only found kimchi at the as well as a spicier soup taste at the bottom of the soup bowl (so might be a good idea to mix and stir the ingredients when served).

Grouper Fish Slices

Both dishes came with Grouper Fish Slices and they were really nice – Firm yet Tender Texture and with a mild and sweet flavour. Likewise, this dish also came with a yam-looking meat patty which had a slight variation of taste due to the tomato soup.

Ambiance & Services

Many of the staff here were Senior Citizens and they were very helpful, polite and smilely. Ambiance wise, many of their tables were placed close together so it could be hard to have a cosy conversation.

Payment

We made payment at the Cashier Counter near the Entrance. Prices listed above include their Service Charge and before the 9% GST. There was a OCBC Credit Card Promotion which entitled us 10% off. In total we paid like $48.36.
