Old World Bakuteh & Fried Porridge

Our Review on Old World Bakuteh & Fried Porridge

We were at Courts Megastore on a Sunday afternoon and just as we thought we had to have our Lunch over at IKEA Tampines… we found this Old World Bakuteh & Fried Porridge Stall with some nice reviews on Google Maps and so we decided to head over to this stall located at this commercial building called T-Space.

There was a short queue when we found the stall and we decided to join in the rather fast-moving queue. More people joined us in the queue shortly after.

Payment was made via DBS PayLah to the Cashier and we were given a beeper. For Old World Bakuteh & Fried Porridge, they do not charge any GST and Service Charge.

The Taste

Our orders took around 10 minutes for the beeper to sound and we collected the three dishes from the Cashier Counter.

— Century Egg Sliced Pork Fried Porridge

Century Egg Sliced Pork Fried Porridge

For $6.00, the serving size of this Century Egg Sliced Pork Fried Porridge was good enough for one. We liked the smooth overall texture of the Porridge on first glance.

Sliced Pork & Century Egg & Thick Wok Hey Porridge Taste

The fried porridge had a really good, distinctive and thick Wok-Hey taste with bits of dried shrimp paste (Hae Bee) and crunchy salted fish. Sliced Pork was quite tender and century egg could easily melt inside the mouth.

— Braised Large Intestines

Braised Large Intestines

Once again, for $6.00, the serving size of the Braised Large Intestines was not really big but we were impressed that each piece of the intestine chunk was really big.

They also served two different parts of the pork intestines and both were really thick and chewy. We really thought they set the standards in terms of what large intestines should really be.

Sauce was also not very salty and we used it to add a bit of colour and taste to the porridge as well as to the Noodle Soup.

— KL Pork Noodle Soup

KL Pork Noodle Soup

For this KL Pork Noodle Soup, we went with the choice of Bee Hoon and extra Bee Hoon for $1. The serving size was barely enough for one even with the extra noodles.

Bee Hoon

On first taste of the soup and bee hoon, we found a familiar taste – it tasted like the Pig Kidney Mee Sua Soup from Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup.

Ingredients wise, they were plentiful and there were a few pieces of Sliced Pork, Liver, Lard, Pork Ball, Minced Pork, Intestine and green Vegetable. Their tastes were not really significant but the different textures went well with the soup and noodles.

Overall, we enjoyed what we had ordered from the Old Worl Bakuteh & Fried Porridge Stall and we think we should go back again to try other items from their Menu as we had seen from other tables when we were there.
