Our Penang Savour Review
Penang Savour was an eating outlet for Penang Cuisines that we frequently walked past when we were going to and back from AMK Hub.
Many a times, this Penang Savour outlet was always crowded – all the tables inside and outside were occupied and a long queue outside. But we guess we were lucky on that particular Sunday afternoon to find 1 lady queuing outside and we decided to join the waiting game.
Queue System & Maximum Eating Time
The queue system was initially very confusing… we were queuing outside when two guys came out to say the rest of us would need to pay and buy first before getting a table. Then we had a few people behind us asking out loud on how to ta-bao (order takeaway) and whether to join the queue. As more people joined after us, things were looking to get complicated and luckily one of their lady staffs took control and guided us on how to queue – 1 queue for takeaway and another 1 queue for tables and get a table first before ordering as they need the Table Number first.
Outside Tables were easily to wait than the Inside Tables and reason for that later. One outside table was soon cleared and we took it since the lady in front of us did not want it. We had taken the menu beforehand (because of that two guys’ suggestion) and had decided what to order from the many items in the Menu (did not have a chance to take photos of the menu). We were informed of the maximum 50 minutes of eating time (same information pasted near the entrance).
What We Ordered?
We placed our orders at the Cashier Counter and we went with Penang Laksa ($4.50 and without Onions), Penang Prawn Mee ($5.00 plus add noodles – extra $1.00), Iced Hawthorn ($2.80) and Iced White Coffee ($2.80, wanted Kosong but was told it was 3-in-1). They accepted Cash Payment only.
It was only a short wait of around 5 minutes that our orders were served.
The Food Taste
— Iced Hawthorn & Iced 3-In-1 White Coffee

The drinks came first. The cups were rather big but paying for $2.80 each seemed not worth it. Taste wise pretty normal. Hawthorn (Iced and Hot) seemed to be a popular choice amongst the customers there.
— Penang Laksa

Penang Laksa came next. A pretty small bowl but ingredients were filled to the top.

For a start, we were glad that we asked for no onions which made it easier to eat. And we could eat it with just a spoon.
The aasam laksa soup base was thick and sourly good. Only thing was that it was not spicy though there were chilli slices. Cucumber slices were many and crunchy. The other ingredients seemed to include mango slices and small chunks of tuna / mackerel which we could not really made out the taste. This also came with a lot of vegetables which became very mushy after soaking in the soup base but still tasted good after that.
And remember why we said that the outside tables were easily to wait and most customers would not want it? Because of the houseflies! Midway through our eating, they came to visit us and we had to keep swiping our hands to chase them away.
— Penang Prawn Mee

Our Penang Prawn Mee came shortly after the Penang Laksa. The serving size was rather big and glad that it came with more soup for the extra noodles as well.

The first taste of the soup was really good and satisfying. It was thick with a strong smell and taste of prawns. There was also no indigestion feeling after that (which we got from some other prawn noodles).
The chilli paste was also surprisingly good to eat on its own or to mix with the soup. Prawns were those small kinds and already peeled except for tail portion. Pork slices were found near the bottom and we found them only towards the end so our suggestion was to give it a good mix first before eating. Some of the pork slices came with fats which made it nice to chew. There were also small pieces of pork lards and rather soft not crunchy. Greens wise were the Kang Kong and Bean Sprouts.

Noodles were a mixture of Bee Hoon and Yellow Noodles. Taste was pretty normal. Then the last ingredient was half of a hard-boiled egg which also tasted normal.
Once we were done with our food, the staffs from Penang Savour were also quick to notice and they asked us if they could clear the bowls right away.
