A Review On San Pin Pao Fan (AMK Outlet)
San Pin Pao Fan (三品泡饭) is a popular (judging by when I googled for ‘pao fan near me’) eating outlet known for its affordable seafood Pao Fan (starting from $6) and is opened by an Ex-Jumbo Seafood Chef (Chef Ng) with many years of cooking experience.
We were craving for something hot and soupy on a very rainy Sunday Afternoon and we decided to look for Pao Fan (the latest craze in Singapore) near us and Google brought us to this San Pin Pao Fan with many outlets and mixed reviews. We decided to head down to try the Ang Mo Kio Outlet.

What We Ordered?
The number of items on the menu were not that many so we were able to choose quickly. On their menu, they have:
- Main Dishes include: Mixed Pao Fan ($7.50), Fresh Prawn Pao Fan ($6.00), Fried Sliced Fish Pao Fan ($6.00), Mixed Sliced Fish Pao Fan ($6.00), Fresh Sliced Fish Pao Fan ($6.00), Iberico Sliced Pork Pao Fan ($7.50), Superior Sliced Beef Pao Fan ($7.80)
- Side Dishes include: Fried Luncheon Meat ($5.00), Fried Mid Joint Wing ($6.00), Potato Cheese Stick ($5.00), Yam Roll ($5.00) & Fried Fish Fillet ($5.00)
- Add-Ons include: Prawn ($2), Fish Slice ($2), Fried Fish Slice ($2), Lala ($2), Egg Floss ($1), Bittergourd ($0.50), Crispy Rice ($0.50) and Rice ($0.50).
And we went with their Fried Sliced Fish Pao Fan ($6.00), Iberico Sliced Pork Pao Fan ($7.50) and Potato Cheese Stick ($5.00). Order and Payment were made at the counter and they only accepted Cash We were then given a beeper.
There were also some news article and reviews about them on a banner sticker so you may want to read them during your queue or seated near to the outlet.
Waiting Time & The Taste
At first we thought there was only this lady who was preparing our items (so we anticipated some waiting time) but there was another elderly man who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere when our beeper buzzed. He was the one who cooked our Pao Fan while the lady cooked the Potato Cheese Sticks.
The Pao Fans were ready in less than 10 minutes and the Potato Cheese Sticks were served to us like 5 minutes later.

Many online reviews mentioned that for the price of $6 or $7.50, the serving size was small. But for us, when we first placed the bowls over to a tray – they felt heavy and after the meal, we were feeling very full and bloated (since we drank most of the soup). Nonetheless, if you think the serving size is really small, you can go for the add-ons.
The ingredients for both bowls were mostly similar. Both came with the same Broth, Rice, Crispy Rice, Egg Floss, Lala and Bittergourd. Differences were the Fried Sliced Fish and Iberico Sliced Pork.

We liked the taste of the Broth. Taste was thick with the taste of prawn (and like a mixture of other seafood). On their Facebook Page, they mentioned that the Broth was made up of pork, chicken, pork skin and bones. The soup base was simmered for 6 to 7 hours then cooked with prawns to get that sweet and thick flavor. Only issue we had from drinking so much broth was that it got us bloated (keep burping) for quite a while.
We also liked the taste of the bitter gourd. They were thinly sliced and soft to chew. Egg floss was plentiful and nice to chew. The Lalas were also thick, plentiful and with no sand in any of them.
Rice was normal. Whereas for the Crispy Rice, we had wished they had given more (though available as add-ons) and that it stayed crispy longer. They tasted almost like the egg floss after soaking in the broth for a short moment.

Fried Sliced Fish tasted normal in our opinion. The outer layer turned quite soft after soaking in the broth. The Iberico Sliced Pork was very good though. They were thinly sliced and each piece had a satisfying layer of fats on it.
— Potato Cheese Sticks & Sauce

Each Potato Cheese Stick was the thickness of a pencil. We liked the crunchiness of the outer layer. Only issue was the insides. It tasted more like Pumpkins than Potatoes. There was no significant taste of cheese. This item came with a mayonnaise sauce which gave that extra sour-y taste.
They also had this sweet sour spicy sauce which was available and we liked that extra taste it gave to the potato cheese sticks and the Pao Fans. There were greens in it so it may take some efforts to separate them out.
