Serangoon Garden Carrot Cake & Wanton Noodle

Our Review On The Serangoon Garden Carrot Cake & Wanton Noodle

Serangoon Garden Carrot Cake & Wanton Noodle (Stall 01-13)

We visited the Serangoon Garden Market on a Sunday Afternoon before our Yoga Lesson and decided to join the long but fast-moving queue over at the Serangoon Garden Carrot Cake & Wanton Noodle Stall (Stall Number is 01-13). This stall seemed to be around since 1970 and had many newspaper reviews as well.

The whole market place was crowded (around 2pm) and not really easy to find a place and we only managed to get one after circling around like 3 – 4 times.

Their Menu and What We Ordered

Menu wise, they have quite a variety like the

  • Black and White Carrot Cake ($3.50 / $4.50 / $5.50)
  • Wanton Noodle (Dry / Soup) ($4.50 / $5.50)
  • Ipoh Hor Fun (Dry / Soup) ($4.50 / $5.50)
  • Shredded Chicken Noodle / Hor Fun (Dry / Soup) ($4.50 / $5.50)
  • Chicken Claw Noodle ($4.50)
  • Spinach Noodle ($4.50 / $5.50)
  • Dumpling Noodle (Dry) ($4.50), Dumpling Soup ($5.00)
  • Fried Wanton ($4.00)

We ordered their Black Carrot Cake ($4.50) and Wanton Noodle with Extra Noodle ($5.50 + $1). Payment was made via Grab Pay.

The Taste

— Black Carrot Cake

Black Carrot Cake

We collected the Black Carrot Cake first and were told to collect the Wanton Noodle later. For $4.50, the serving size was good for two. We were also given a small fork.

Black Carrot Cake (Small Pieces)

We liked that the carrot cakes were mostly in small pieces and every piece was nicely cooked in a good mix of dark sauce, sweet sauce and chilli. We liked the piping hot and oily taste with each mouth.

There was also a good amount of Chye Poh (Preserved Radish) which was crunchy and sweet with the dark sauce. Another thing that we liked was also the thin layers of egg that we could taste separately.

— Wanton Noodle

Wanton Noodle

We collected our Wanton Noodles while in the midst of eating the Black Carrot Cake. This ($5.50 + $1) Serving Size became a bit too much for the two of us.

Noodles tasted normal but what we thought made this dish nice was the sauce which was a good mix of spicy chilli and sourish green chilli and the ingredients.

Their Char Siew meat were mostly thinly sliced, tasted a bit cold but still had that bit of authentic sweet char siew taste. It could have been a little better if the Char Siew had a bit of charred crispy taste. We liked the Fried Wanton which tasted really crunchy and had a bit of those warm juicy meat inside.

The (four) dumplings were served in a bowl of soup and the soup taste was still to our liking. We also liked the Dumpling which had slippery skin with a small chunk of meat inside.

Overall, we liked their Black Carrot Cake whereas for the Noodles, it would be best to just go for their Fried Wanton and/or Dumplings option with the Red and Green Chilli.
