The Boiler Seafood Bar & Beer

Our Review on The Boiler (Howard Road Outlet)

The Boiler @ Howard Road

Our New Year Eve Lunch at The Boiler @ Howard Road only came about after we had to give up our places in the long queue over at The Seafood Bucket (Peninsula Plaza) and Google suggested this place with similar concept and many good reviews.

This was after our Chair Yoga Session; it was around 12.40pm and their last order was at 2.15pm. We decided to try our luck and the drive down was around 15 minutes. There was a parking area nearby and we managed to find an empty parking space.

One of the staffs attended to us at the entrance and she asked if we had any reservations, we said no (and crossed our fingers) and after a short moment, we were given a Table for 2.

Inside The Boiler

The place was quite big and was half-packed with two big gatherings on the left and a few smaller ones at the right side. We were given a Physical Menu as well as a QR Code to scan to make our orders online.

The Menu and What We Ordered

Part of the Menu from The Boiler

The Menu from The Boiler had many items like Mains, Pasta, Salad, Soup, Seafood Bag Combo, Ala Carte Seafood, Starters, Sides, Kid’s Meals, Dessert, and Drinks like Beer, Sake & Soju, Non-Alcoholic, Cocktails. You can view their latest menu on their website.

We decided to try their Seafood Bag Combo Duo Bag Plus with Garlic Butter Sauce ($89), Nacho Chips with Salsa ($5.90), Coke Light ($3.50) and Homemade Ice Lemon Tea ($3.90, free flow).

We submitted the orders via their online menu and we were each given an apron. Thus began the waiting game.

The Taste

— Homemade Ice Lemon Tea & Coke Light

The drinks were served first. Coke Light was normal. Homemade Ice Lemon Tea was okay and not so sweet. Refills were frequent as well so we would recommend this if you are not into other drink types. Another reason was that the Seafood Bag Combo really took so time to be served and by then, most of the ice has melted and we nearly finished our Coke Light as well.

— Nacho Chips With Salsa

Nacho Chips with Salsa

The Nacho Chips with Salsa was served shortly after. Chips were crunchy and a bit salty. Salsa had a tinge of mixed spiciness and sourness which went well with the chips. Serving size was just enough for the two of us.

— Seafood Bag Combo Duo Bag Plus with Garlic Butter Sauce

Seafood Bag Combo Duo Bag Plus with Garlic Butter Sauce

The Seafood Bag Combo Duo Bag Plus with Garlic Butter Sauce included Mud Crab (600 – 650g), Prawns, Mussels, Clams, Smoked Sausages, Sweet Pearl Corns and Buns. Other Sauce Options included The Works (Mild, Medium, Raging’ Hot), Peppa’ Butter and Sauce of the Month.

This was served long after we almost finished the chips and we knew our turn was near when we saw the other tables being served. One thing we noticed was that we were served this bag as it is (meaning the staff just brought the bag to our table and opened it up) whereas another staff served another table and had given the bag a good shake before opening it up. We were jealous at that point.

We were given gloves as well and we started to use our fingers to eat.

Seafood Bag Combo - All Gone!

The smoked sausages were good. Mussels and Clams were quite meaty. Prawns were also thick and the shells could be easily peeled off. Garlic Butter tasted more buttery than garlicky and it was not really that oily and the Buns were good choices to soak and taste the sauce as it was. Corns were quite normal and they would taste better if we soaked them longer in the garlic butter.

Mud Crabs were still okay with some of the parts had to be cracked open with the provided pincer and it was not an easy task especially with the gloves on and after clearing all of the other items. By mid-way most of our fingers had pierced through the gloves and our naked finger nails were doing the meat digging. A good suggestion was to clear the crabs first before working on the rest.

The Payment

There was a sink area at the corner and we washed our hands first before proceeding to make the payment at the counter. Total was $121.54 which included service charge of 10% and GST Charge of 8%.
