Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap (Kovan)

Checking Out The Next-Door Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap Outlet

Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap (Kovan)

The Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap Outlet is clearly visible at the T junction of Kovan and just two doors away from the Coffeeshop By Yaowarat which we visited a few months back.

We visited this place at around 1pm on a Sunday and it was still pretty crowded with a few empty tables. We got a place near the counter. No table service was available and we ordered our food at the counter and they accept only cash and FavePay. Cashback is available if you use FavePay. They do not charge GST and Service Charge as well.

What We Ordered

They have quite a wide variety to choose from but some of the items may not be available on that day (e.g. their Thai Boiled Pork Belly… Sad…) and it will be indicated on their menu when you are about to order.

And so… we ordered their:

  • Signature Thai Kway Chap ($5)
  • Plain Rice ($1)
  • Thai Fish Sausage ($6)
  • Deep Fried Thai Pork Belly ($6)
  • Cold Lemon Grass ($3)
  • Fried Large Intestine ($8)

How Did The Food Taste?

Cold Lemon Grass

This came first and on our first sip, there was a very strong Lemon Grass Taste unlike some places where we could not taste the lemon grass at all. This taste reminded us of Thai spa. We think this drink should have that Thumbs Up symbol.

Signature Thai Kway Chap

This kway chap was really different compared to those local version. Each Kway curled up and tasted tougher in texture. This also made it easier to scoop up so no more a test on your Chopstick or Soup Spoon skills.

The soup base was also a tad spicy and tasting more peppery. The Kway Chap also came with a few fish sausages and pork slices / intestines. We think this made a good introductory dish for someone who want to have a taste of most of the items they offer but not sure on what to order at that moment.

Fried Large Intestine / Fish Sausage / Thai Pork Belly

The Fried Large Intestine had this strong ‘internal’ taste on our first bite. If you are one of those who cannot take this kind of strong intestine smell, you may not take it well. The texture was chewy, went well with the sauce.

For the Fish Sausage, we could say that this was our favorite. It looked and tasted like Chinese Sausage but less salty. There was also fats in the bits of the sausage and it tasted oily but shiok.

Whereas for the Pork Belly, we liked that they were not over-cooked and we could taste the crunchiness of the skin on our first bite followed by the soft texture of the fats in the first layer. It also went well with the dark soy sauce.

The three items were really up to taste but we guessed we ordered too many fried items, hence towards the end, we did not enjoy them as much as when we took the first bite and had a hard time finishing up the food.
